I grew up on the beautiful Hudson River just north of New York City. As a kid I remember my
mother and I netting blue crabs by the bushel, my uncles netting shad for sale in New York City, catching striped bass in the spring and sturgeon thru the ice in winter.
I remember car races on the frozen surface. When I left all that was gone. The fish and crabs all but disappeared. The Hudson barely froze in the winter. The Hudson’s environment was altered. It was unintentional of course, we saw the wild Hudson as limitless, taking all that we could dump into her and around her. It wasn't until theRiver Keepers came along that the river began to heal. I saw firsthand the effect man can have on the environment.
This is why we buildGreento respect nature, "our lives may depend on it. "
We Know What it Means to Build
This is Scandia's 25th building year. From Connecticut, New York and Virginia, from large custom homes to unique town homes, we now exclusively do Green Building.
One of Scandia’s recent projects is our award winning town homes in the Village of Rocketts Landing. Built on a former manufacturing site these homes are certified Green by EarthCraft of Virginia and Energy Star. These townhomes feature vegetated Green Roofs and a host of energy saving and healthy indoor air quality features. They are 42% more energy efficient than the standard built home. SCANDIA TOOK HOME THE GOLD IN THE 2009 ENERGY VALUE HOUSING AWARDS.
